Plain Pattern Project - Pattern and First Fabric

Well, I managed to not only select my pattern but also trace my pattern for the Plain Pattern Project yesterday.  Yesterday, I worked on aprons but this weekend, I'll cut out a muslin.

Here is my pattern:

BurdaStyle 05 2011 style 128
Dress from the front
And the technical drawings

I really struggled with this decision.  I desperately wanted to pick a vintage pattern.  However, I knew that I really wanted to do the bodice of this dress with different skirts.  Raglan sleeves suit my wide shoulders and the Peter Pan collar isn't over the top.  Already I have another 2 variations in my mind, including possibly eliminating the zip and making the skirt portion a stretch woven or a knit.

According to Burda measurements I am a 42 up top and a 40 in the hips.  This is a petite pattern but I have a high waist so my muslin will let me know if I need to add length to the bodice and the skirt or just the skirt or perhaps nothing!  We shall see.  There are only three versions of this pattern on BurdaStyle and they all dissed the back gathers (which I LOVE) and 2 of the 3 have even removed the collar.  At it seems like all of them are really really thin (I am not a tiny woman) plus this is a petite pattern.  I might have made a silly choice with this pattern but time will tell.

I've yet to pick my first fabric.  The Navy Dot below is a stretch cotton but it has a bit of a cone drape (more than a quilting cotton) and I don't think the gathers at the back will look so great with a stiffer drape:
I would use a cream cotton for the collar
The pattern calls for a lightweight fabric with some body which, in my opinion, is a lighter quilting cotton.  I also have the two fabrics below, that I am thinking of perhaps using for the bodice, paired with the navy dot for the skirt (since it is a fitted skirt)

I'll think about it on my run this morning.  My muslin should show me what fabric this pattern requires.  I am going to use an old sheet which is similar in weight to my quilting cottons.

Have a GREAT Saturday.
